Let's just call June "All About Chris" Month, shall we?

Since June is, unbelievably, already halfway over, I wanted to mention two very special days here at Casa Gibson: Chris' birthday and his very first Father's Day!

On June 6 (the day after Al turned seven months old), we celebrated Chris's birthday!  We had dinner at home and an ice cream cake from Ferris Acres Creamery.  The next night, we left Al with a babysitter for the very first time!  A babysitter that wasn't related to him, anyway.  Her name was Colleen, she just graduated from UConn, and he didn't even know she was here.  :)

It was pouring that night, but we didn't let it stop us from enjoying dinner at Ecco, the rooftop bar at one of our favorite Italian restaurants in Bethel.  The last time we were there was Halloween, when we had no power or heat and were waiting on Alex to make his arrival!  How times have changed!

Happy Birthday Dad!  (Do they not look identical with their matching haircuts?)

Fun on the deck!

At first Chris didn't want to celebrate Father's Day at all.  I would not have that!  And so we had a great weekend!  On Saturday we took Alex to Jennings Beach for the first time.  It was a very, very brief time but a good first time, I guess.

Beach Baby

Thank goodness for this picnic table and its shade!

Sunday Chris grilled and did a little homebrewing.  I made sure to take a few Father/Son pics in their matching blue button-downs right at the end of the day.  We were encroaching on Al's bedtime, which is why he looks a tad grumpy in the second pic.  Actually...that's exactly what Chris looks like when I take too many pics.  Like father, like son!

You are a wonderful dad Christopher, and Alexander is so lucky to have you to look up to!  :)  Hope your first Father's Day was a great one!

And he's off!

He's mobile!  Not crawling on all fours, but still- he's FAST.  You'll see what I mean at the end!

It is two and half minutes long.  If Al doesn't call you "Grandma and Pop" or "Nana and Grandpa", you might not find it that interesting.  :)

(For some reason the video and audio are not syncing up below.  Click on the Word Vimeo- beneath the box, where it says from Jessica Hasty on Vimeo and it will take you to website.  The picture is better there!)

What do you think?

I'm not sure how old Chris or I are in these pics.  Mom?  Mary Pat?

But I think Alex is a nice mix of both of us.  :)

I think he has Chris' nose, and maybe my big, goofy smile?

My cheeks but Chris' ears?

What do you see?

Seven Months

Alex turned seven months old yesterday!  Can you believe it?  Our "photo shoots" are getting tougher because my model doesn't like to stay still...ever!  But I guess that's to be expected from a seven month old.  :)  Here is what is happening with our little fella right now:

Size:  Our next well visit isn't until August (at 9 months) so I'm unsure.  I thought about weighing him at mom's club this week but changed my mind.  He's nursing well, truly enjoying solid foods and appears to still be growing like a weed (see photos below).  So I try not to worry too much about his actual size.  He fits perfectly into 9 month and 12 month clothing.
Likes:  Playing with toys!  He's always got something in his hand (and mouth).  He can press buttons and shake things to makes them rattle and jingle- so cute.  He loves scooting and army crawling, taking walks, being outside, eating.  He LOVES Bailey.  He truly does.  He laughs at Bailey and always want to reach and grab for him.  He's becoming more tolerant of nap time.

Dislikes:  Hmm...what does he dislike?  We've been trying to keep him up til 7:30 every night so that Chris gets to spend more time with him and he's been doing great, but sometimes he melts down during the "going to bed" routine.  As in, he'll cry during lotion, diaper change, vitamin D, and putting on pajamas.  But other than that?  Can't think of anything he dislikes.

Sleeping and Eating:  Still sleeping through the night.  Thank you, Alex!  Since his 6-month post he's tried bananas, green peas, avocado, mango, mashed potatoes and oatmeal and he liked them all.  He liked mashed potatoes the least and I don't blame him- they were pretty boring.  I'm sure he'll love them once I can add a little butter.  :)

My handsome little man.
Seven Months - June 5, 2013

This is the SINGLE full body all the rest he is grabbing his feet.  He doesn't look happy about it, either.  :)

Always grabbing his feet and his toes.

"That's enough pictures Mom!!!"

Always with the open mouth.

Sitting up is fun!

I put him on the floor in the center of the blanket...and you see where he ended up.  And FAST!

Alex had his first haircut on Saturday!  I still can't believe it.  A friend from church told me her kids didn't get their first haircuts until they were TWO years old!  But I guess we've always known Alex had more hair than the average baby.  It's his top commented on feature.  After his cheeks.  And his size in general.  :)
We had quite a few days of hot weather last week and it made our little guy sweat profusely.  His hair was wet from sweat and his bangs were hanging in front of his it was time.  As much as I hated to see all that beautiful hair go.
Right before!

And right after.  Can you see the pile of hair on the coffee table?!  Chris took off a LOT of hair!

In the yard with his new much better!
It makes him look like such a big boy!  Excuse me while I go cry a little.  He was a trooper though- no tears at all.  And there were quite a few comments at church the next day that Chris could begin a second career as a baby hair stylist...he really did do a great job!

So many firsts.

With each and every day that passes by, I grow to be more and more in awe of our little guy.  I love watching him investigate the world around him.  He experiences everyday occurences we take for granted like they are the most amazing thing he's ever seen...because they are!  :)
Take Bailey, for instance.  Normally Chris and I have to work to make Alex laugh by bouncing, tickling, making funny faces or funny noises.  But what does Bailey get?  Spontaneous, unprompted laughter.  It's the sweetest, most remarkable sound.  He loves his big brother!  I adore it.
It's incredible how fast Alex is growing and changing.  He experiences "firsts" all the time, and I don't see that slowing down any time soon!  Almost every day there is some sort of new experience, so here are a few of my recent favorites:
I mentioned it in his six month post, I think, but solid foods were started at about 5 1/2 months.  We started with sweet potatoes, which he loved...almost from the start.  You can see below the very first day he tried sweet potatoes.  Not crazy about them.  But by day two, he was very into eating.  And as you can see from the second picture, he now really enjoys his meals.
Organic sweet potatoes = terrible idea.  (Look at the color!  Ick!)  Mom will make real sweet potatoes for you next time!

Food coma.

Mother's Day
My very first Mother's Day was wonderful.  Both Alex and Chris were extra special to me (I got a special lunch made by Christopher AND a gift certificate to a spa!) and the weather was perfect.  I rarely hand the camera to anyone else, so I was so thankful that Chris snapped a few pics of Alex and me to remember the day.

Happy baby!

Sweet boy.  :)
Aunt Caroline
Alex was able to meet his other aunts and uncles when we went down to Arkansas in February (except for Cole, hope to see you soon!).  But he didn't get the chance to meet his Auntie Caroline until she came down to CT a few weeks ago.  We had such a great time with her and am so happy she was finally able to meet her nephew!  Unfortunately it rained a few days while she was here so we couldn't do everything I would have liked, but we did manage to take her for ice cream every. single. day.  Loved having her here!  :)

Alex is cool like his Auntie Caroline in their matching shades.  :)

Like quite a few of Alex's other milestones, it seems that we are inching our way towards crawling.  I thought it would take place all at once but it's been sort of a slow, for lack of a better word, crawl!

First he would just use his elbows to pivot his body around in a circle.

Then he started using his arms to pull himself forward.

Next he started getting up on his knees and rocking a bit, but not going anywhere.

Now he's doing the "army crawl" where he's using both arms and legs.

No matter what method he employs, he is fast.  And he can get into almost anything within reach!  Lately he likes getting his legs stuck under the coffee table or couch.  I really thought this didn't happen until closer to nine months...I'm still a little bit in shock that he's mobile!

Alex took his first ride in the Porsche today!  It was just a quick ride around the block, but Alex loved the rumble of the engine and looking up at the sky.  And he must have remembered the bouncy feeling from all his rides while still in utero, because by the end of the very short ride he was asleep! :)

Apparently boys love fast cars even at six months old!

My guys!

It was getting pretty late in the evening... :)

So peaceful.
