Our happy, growing boy

It is REALLY hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that our little man is 11 weeks old!  I am so grateful that I get the opportunity to take this entire year off from work.  If I didn't, I would have been back at work last week and he's still growing and changing so much each day!  I feel unbelievably blessed to be able to have this time with Alex.
Big Al is still sleeping great, with a few hiccups every now and again when he wants to wake up at 2:00 or 3:00.  But most mornings, he sleeps til at least 4:30, and lately until 6:00.  And that's with a 9:00 or 9:30 bedtime!  We lucked out to have a kiddo that enjoys his sleep.
He's still making up for those missed feedings during the day.  He wants to eat every hour and a half, all day long.  That's an hour and a half from the start of one feeding to the start of the next...yikes!  Again, so glad I can be home with him so that he can eat as often as he needs.  I weighed him at the mom's meeting yesterday- 14 pounds, 12.5 oz.  Still thriving!  And the lactation consultant assured me that it's not possible to overfeed an exclusively breastfed baby.  So, it's not my fault he's enormous!  :)
We keep a journal in the living room of milestones and any little habits we want to remember, but here a few of the big ones right now:
Little man is getting more tolerant of tummy time on the floor (he's always enjoyed it on mom or dad)
and that means he can hold his head up for a lot longer!

He's such a happy boy!  He smiles and talks all the time now (although he still only laughs out loud in his sleep).
He's crazy about his Daddy.

He loves to "fist pump".  He does it all the time, and we think it makes him look like a superhero.

Still LOVES the activity mat!

Watching his first football game with Daddy.  :)

Two Months

Our little man turned 2 months old last Saturday!  His personality is starting to come out more and more, and we adore his sweet smiles and laughs.  He is cooing and talking all the time...I just love our "conversations".  I also love how he sticks his bottom lip out when he's finished nursing.  It's the cutest!
Size: Alex and I went to the pediatrician yesterday for his 2 month checkup.  He weighs 14 pounds, 5.5 ounces (wowza!) putting him in the 90th percentile for weight.  He is 25 inches long, which is over the 95th percentile for height.  Maybe he'll end up even taller than his daddy!  We just switched over to size 2 diapers and I finally had to put all his 0-3 month clothes away. Tear.

Likes: Playing on his playmat!  He's starting to bat at and reach for the dangling toys.  He also likes looking at Bailey, "talking" to people, and walks in the stroller and ErgoBaby.  He's also a huge fan of Chris says, you'd think he were waking up for the first time in days the way he stretches out his little body!

Dislikes: Hmm, he's generally a pretty happy baby.  He still dislikes tummy time (he tolerates it more in the morning than in the afternoon).  But since Chris made a few adjustments to the carseat, he no longer gets upset when we strap him in that.

Sleeping and Eating: Little man has started to sleep through the night, which (according to my books) doesn't typically happen until 4 months, so we are very grateful!  "Sleeping through the night" translates to one 6-hour stretch of sleep, so the fact that he's been sleeping for seven, eight, even nine hour stretches at a time are amazing.  Last night he woke up once around 2:00, but I think it was probably due to the fact that he had his shots yesterday and slept much of the day. That said, since he's sleeping so well at night, he is making up for those missed meals during the day!  There are times when he wants to eat every hour and a half, or even every hour.  What can I say, you don't get adorable cheeks and a little Buddha belly like his without enjoying your food!  :)

Alex's First Christmas

Alex had a terrific first Christmas and New Year!  Truth be told he slept through most of the holiday merriment but I like to think he enjoyed it nonetheless.  Next year will be so much fun...Christmas with a one year old!  We didn't even take him to see Santa this year since he wouldn't have any idea what was happening.  But next year, we're there!
There was quite a bit of well deserved lounging around and relaxing at Casa Gibson, since Chris is able to take off the entire week between Christmas and New Year's (the plant shuts down).  Aforementioned relaxing is well illustrated in the pic below:

We went to the Christmas Eve service at church which was lovely, as always.  Since it was at 5:30, there was lots of time to enjoy Christmas Eve with our little family when we got home.  I love Alex's reindeer jammies (which are sadly almost too small now).  You can tell from this pic how much he loves his daddy!  :)

Christmas Day we opened presents, had coffee, hung out with Alex and Bailey.  It was wonderful.  :)  Then we took about 3 dozen pictures trying to get a few obligatory Christmas "sibling pics".  Here is one of the few where both Alex AND Bailey were looking at the camera!

That evening we drove up to New Hampshire to spend a few days with Chris' family.  We had planned on going up the day after Christmas, but an ominous weather forecast had us leaving early.  We had a great time at Jay and Mary Pat's new house in New Castle, and really enjoyed introducing Alex to some of the extended family.  He received MANY Christmas gifts from the family, particularly Nana and Grandpa.  And the spoiling begins!  :)

Only pic we could get before Bailey ran off!

3 generations of Gibson guys!
We got back to Connecticut Friday, and the next day we had quite a bit of snow.  Since it's been so cold, all the snow stuck around, so things are still looking lovely and white outside.  It made for the perfect backdrop to take Alex on his first "hike" in the ErgoBaby carrier at Huntington Park!  :)

We were worried about him staying warm, but he seemed nice and cozy tucked in next to Chris!

Bailey enjoyed the walk too...luckily he realized the ice wasn't completely frozen yet and stayed off!

Brr...Happy New Year 2013!
Happy New Year from our little family to yours!
It'll be hard to top 2012, but I have a feeling it's gonna be a great year!
