Where to start...we made a headboard! I can't remember exactly when we did this because it happened in stages. Chris chopped the rungs off the back of the bed and painted the whole bed dark brown (it was natural wood before). Then we picked out a fabric that we both agreed on...which was probably the toughest part of this whole project. :)
The plan was to start with MDF, use 2 inch foam, cover that with batting, and then staple the fabric over all three layers. We purchased enough fabric to run it longways across the headboard, until we realized that the fabric only ran in one direction. So I had to cut the fabric and sew it together to make it long enough to use. After several failed attempts, I was finally able to match it up. Can you find the seam in the after picture?
I still haven't found bedding (I was just trying out the brown pillows here.) Since Bailey sleeps with us it seems silly to spend money on bedding that will only get dirty, so for now we still have the old duvet. BUT I did buy some fun table lamps that actually match! Before we were using mismatched lamps from our days as single people.
On April 4, Bailey turned FIVE YEARS OLD! I can't believe it. I thought it would be fun to have a party, however Chris wasn't on board with that. (A fun sidenote- we're actually going to a dog birthday party Saturday night. :) I didn't let that stop me from buying him a special birthday bone though.
Since the bitterest part of the winter is over, Bailey and I have been going running a lot. I use the word "over" in the loosest sense by the way. It was 43 degrees when we were running yesterday and I still had to wear a knit cap. I get grumpy if my ears get cold. Anyway, almost every day someone asks me if Bailey is a puppy! Sometimes they attribute it to his huge paws, sometimes they say he just looks puppy-like (maybe because we don't give him that sissy cocker cut?), but no matter the reason people are shocked to hear that he's 5. Aww...I remember when he was just a puppy. He was so tiny!
I love our dining room table. It's 8 feet long though, and nearly impossible to find a table runner for. So I made one! It's not perfect, but I like it.
Finally, my little project for this week! Our coat closet was driving me crazy. The walls were unpainted and the previous owners picked the ugliest planks of wood to use as shelves.
So this week I painted the shelves white, painted the walls a creamy yellow (the same color as that room), and added trim to the edges of the shelves so they look smooth. I love it!
The wooden knobs on the doors had been painted white over and over again. Not cute. We replaced them with some bright, colorful ones I found at Anthropologie. Plus, I realized that the previous owners had placed thick pieces of velcro in between the doors to help hold them shut. Yeah, it actually had the opposite effect. I took some pliers and pulled it all off. It's just a closet, I know, but I think it looks great!
Aren't they fun? They sort of match the carpet runner that's in the front room too.
Chris had school Monday night so we celebrated our anniversary on Tuesday night. I still can't believe it's been two years! Time flies when you're having fun, right? We had chicken marsala, parmesan risotto, and Prosecco at home. We thought a little Italian would be nice to remember our fabulous honeymoon. :) We've been married two years and Bailey just turned five...as my Grandma would say, where does the time go?
