I love tag sales, especially here in Fairfield County, because you can get truly great stuff. Like this chair I got for $3!! It's super sturdy and well made and fits right into our 120-year old guest bedroom. I never really considered myself to be one for antiques or the shabby chic look. My original plan was to sand and refinish or paint this so it would fit in with the rest of our house. But, if you've got a room that's over a century old and looks it, shabby chic works. I think we'll keep it just the way it is!

I've always wanted to learn to knit. And reading The Friday Night Knitting Club last summer only made me want to learn that much more. So when I saw "Learn to Knit" offered as one of Newtown's adult education classes this fall I signed up right away. And I love it! I'm still very much a beginner but it's truly relaxing...when I'm not dropping stitches or knitting when I should be pearling. :)
My first piece of knitting. This was all I managed to knit over the course of our 2-hour class the first week. Don't worry- I'm better already!
Chris has also enjoyed Newtown's selection of adult education classes. Last spring I signed him up for golf. He did great! Was actually told to move to the advanced class. And here are a few pics from our last trip to New Hampshire to prove it.

Chris and I spent this gorgeous Labor Day weekend up at Bretton Woods with Chris' parents. On Saturday morning before they arrived, the two of us decided to hike up Mt. Jefferson. Since you start at around 3,000 feet, much of the hike is above tree line and up here in the White Mountains, that means it gets cold and windy FAST! But the views from the summit were absolutely incredible and made the whole hike (that included a lot of scrambling over some tough rocks) worth it. We were actually up in the clouds! Chris made this video of some pics from the hike- enjoy!
